They are seeking an experienced, highly motivated Senior Project Manager – Mechanical Controls to take ownership of complex projects, provide leadership to project teams, and help drive continued growth and operational excellence.
Position Overview
The Senior Project Manager will have overall responsibility for managing mechanical controls and related construction projects from pre-construction through completion. This individual will serve as a key point of contact for owners, clients, engineers, field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and internal management.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of mechanical construction knowledge, project management expertise, financial discipline, leadership ability, and technical understanding. This position requires someone who can independently manage multiple projects, anticipate challenges, control costs, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.

Primary Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and management for multiple mechanical controls and construction projects from initial planning through final completion.
- Serve as the primary project contact for owners, clients, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and internal management.
- Review and interpret plans, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, and other project documentation.
- Review project estimates and establish project budgets, cost controls, labor requirements, and procurement strategies.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor detailed project schedules to ensure timely completion and coordination of all project activities.
- Lead project planning and manpower coordination meetings.
- Develop material lists and oversee procurement to ensure materials and equipment are available when required.
- Purchase and manage subcontractor agreements, materials, equipment, and outside services.
- Prepare, negotiate, and manage change orders while ensuring changes are properly documented and incorporated into the overall project.
- Monitor project financial performance, including labor, material, subcontractor, and other project costs.
- Forecast project costs and identify potential budget issues before they impact profitability.
- Coordinate labor planning and review/approve project payroll and labor reporting.
- Monitor productivity and take corrective action when labor performance or project costs deviate from plan.
- Attend and lead job site and project meetings with clients, contractors, engineers, and field personnel.
- Coordinate project activities with field supervisors, technicians, trades, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Review installation requirements and provide technical and operational guidance when needed.
- Identify project risks, conflicts, and schedule issues and develop solutions proactively.
- Ensure projects are executed in accordance with contract requirements, applicable codes, company standards, and customer expectations.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including schedules, budgets, purchase orders, change orders, correspondence, and closeout documentation.
- Support project closeout, final billing, punch-list completion, and customer turnover.
- Develop and maintain strong long-term relationships with key customers and project stakeholders.
- Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced project managers, coordinators, and field personnel.
- Work closely with senior management to improve project processes, profitability, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in mechanical construction, controls, HVAC, plumbing, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of construction project management experience, with demonstrated responsibility for project budgets, schedules, manpower, procurement, and client relationships.
- Strong understanding of commercial and industrial mechanical construction processes.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience working with Philadelphia-area trade unions and union contractors.
- Strong understanding of project financial management, including labor costing, forecasting, change orders, and project profitability.
- Advanced ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation.
- Experience with construction project management and scheduling software.
- Strong knowledge of project scheduling, manpower planning, procurement, and subcontractor coordination.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with owners, engineers, contractors, field personnel, and senior management.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
- Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing mechanical controls, automatic temperature controls, HVAC, plumbing, or building automation projects.
- Experience with projects exceeding $1,000,000 in value.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, Visio, and project scheduling software.
- Experience with construction management platforms and project financial management systems.
- Master Plumber’s License or other relevant trade certifications.
- Strong knowledge of IBC, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and applicable building codes.
- Experience with design-build construction projects.
- Experience managing institutional, commercial, or industrial clients.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, or related discipline is preferred; equivalent field and trade experience will be considered.
