Tax & Accounting Associate (CPA Firm)

Salary: $55K to $70K

Job Summary:
A small public accounting firm is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Tax and Accounting Associate to join its team. The ideal candidate will assist clients with the accurate and timely preparation of tax returns, financial statements, and bookkeeping services, as well as provide advisory support. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse client base and gain hands-on experience across tax, accounting, and bookkeeping.

Tax Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and file individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Provide tax planning and advisory services to minimize tax liabilities for clients.
  • Conduct research on tax laws & regulations to support client needs & tax planning strategies.
  • Analyze client financial data to identify potential tax-saving opportunities and recommend strategies.
  • Assist in preparing responses to IRS inquiries or audits.
  • Review and ensure that tax filings are accurate & compliant with federal and state requirements.
  • Stay current on changes in tax legislation and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.

Accounting Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Monitor client financial performance, identifying areas for improvement and potential risks.
  • Reconcile client accounts and ensure consistency with financial statements.
  • Assist clients in understanding their financial statements & how they impact business decisions.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures to ensure accuracy of financial reporting.
  • Review and maintain general ledger entries and accounts to ensure proper accounting records.
  • Provide support for audits and help clients resolve accounting discrepancies or irregularities.

Bookkeeping Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger records, ensuring the correct categorization of financial transactions.
  • Record daily financial transactions including expenses, income & transfers into accounting software.
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions & other financial accounts on a regular basis.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely invoicing and payment processing.
  • Prepare and submit sales tax returns in compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Assist clients with establishing effective bookkeeping systems and processes.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Prior experience working in a CPA Firm
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, tax laws, and bookkeeping processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial data entry and reporting.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize workloads, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting/tax software including QuickBooks, ProSystems, or similar Tax software
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for identifying financial trends, discrepancies, and tax-saving opportunities.
