Carpentry Foreman (Construction)

The Carpentry Foreman is responsible for leading and directing field carpentry staff on commercial construction projects. This role combines hands-on carpentry expertise with supervisory responsibilities, ensuring quality workmanship in layout, framing, drywall, ceiling systems, doors, and hardware installation. The Foreman enforces company policies and safety practices, manages subcontractor performance, and ensures all work complies with project contracts, company standards, and OSHA regulations. This position requires strong blueprint knowledge, material familiarity, and coordination with the Superintendent team to maintain project schedules and compliance. Travel to job sites is required as needed.

Expectations: (Specific Tasks/Goals/Daily, Monthly, Expectations)

  • Oversee management of material use onsite with project outline.
  • Oversees onsite safety protocol and administration for all staff under company umbrella
  • Maintains job site OSHA compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance with safety staff
  • Maintains knowledge of commercial carpentry trends, best practices, code changes, and new technologies in construction field services.
  • Advises and assists Superintendents for project and jobsite management issues.
  • Keeps up to date on overall activities of the company, identifying problem areas and taking corrective actions with field staff where applicable and within job scope for project delivery.
  • Responsible for planning, organizing, and coordination of daily activities and work assignments for the onsite team.
  • Must accurately track and report daily work hours for crew, equipment utilization, and quantities for the work performed.

Supervisory responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises carpentry field staff in accordance with company’s policies and applicable federal, local, and state laws.
  • Responsibilities include training, planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems onsite.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform structural and non-structural metal stud framing on commercial sites.
  • Install commercial drywall, including layout, cutting, hanging, and finishing.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to ensure accurate layout and construction.
  • Install acoustical ceilings
  • Install windows, doors, and hardware.
  • Perform field measurements, cutting, shaping, and modification of materials as needed.
  • Ensure all work complies with jobsite safety protocol and manufacturer specifications.
  • Work with and support subcontractors and other trades to meet project deadlines.
  • Travel as required to different job sites based on project assignment.
  • Abide by OSHA regulations and all applicable federal, state, and local safety standards.
  • Keep management informed of job-site progress or any issues that may affect project delivery.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe, operable condition and perform cleanup of job site areas.

Physical Requirements:

To safely perform the essential functions of this position, the Commercial Carpenter must meet the following physical demands:

  • Lifting: Frequently lift and carry materials and tools weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Standing/Walking: Stand and walk for extended periods (8–10 hours/day) on uneven or rough surfaces.
  • Climbing: Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, stairs, and work at heights.
  • Bending/Kneeling/Crouching: Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching to complete installation tasks.
  • Reaching/Handling: Regular reaching in all directions and use of hands to handle tools and materials.
  • Manual Dexterity: Fine motor skills required for measuring, cutting, fastening, and finishing work.
  • Balance: Must maintain physical balance while on ladders or elevated platforms.
  • Vision: Adequate vision to read plans, use measurement tools, and identify job site hazards.
  • Hearing: Must be able to hear instructions, signals, and warning devices in a construction environment.

    Work Environment:

  • Indoor and outdoor construction environments; exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • Frequent exposure to dust, noise, and construction-related hazards.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
  • May work in confined spaces or at elevated heights.

PHYSICIAN EVALUATION REQUIREMENT:

A licensed physician must evaluate and certify that the candidate is physically capable of meeting the demands of this position. Medical clearance is required prior to employment or return to duty following medical leave or injury.
