About the Opportunity
Our client is a growing, multi-location retailer specializing in sports cards, trading cards, memorabilia, and collectibles, with established retail locations and a rapidly expanding live-breaking business.
As the company continues to grow, they are looking for a Finance Manager to play an important role in the company’s day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, cash management, and business analysis.
This is a hands-on opportunity for an accounting professional who wants more than a traditional accounting role. You’ll work closely with ownership and management, gain broad exposure to the financial operations of a growing entrepreneurial business, and have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as the company expands.
What You’ll Do
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Manage key components of the monthly financial close process.
- Prepare monthly Profit & Loss Statements and Balance Sheets.
- Produce financial reporting by individual retail location, business unit, and on a consolidated company basis.
- Review financial results for accuracy and investigate unusual transactions, variances, and trends.
- Help ensure monthly reporting is accurate, timely, and actionable.
- Partner with management and outside accounting professionals as needed.
Cash Flow & Financial Management
- Prepare regular cash-position reporting.
- Monitor and analyze key retail KPIs, including sales per square foot, gross profit per transaction, inventory turnover, customer retention/loyalty, and other performance metrics.
- Assist with short-term cash-flow forecasting.
- Track upcoming payments and significant financial obligations.
- Provide management with visibility into current and projected cash needs.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and other financial-planning activities.
Business Analytics & Management Reporting
A key part of this role will be helping the company turn financial data into meaningful business intelligence.
You’ll help develop, maintain, and improve a monthly management dashboard that gives ownership and leadership a clear picture of company performance.
Analysis may include:
- Revenue by store and business unit
- Gross profit and gross margin
- Store-level profitability
- Operating and labor expenses
- Inventory-related financial metrics
- Performance of the live-breaking business
- Month-over-month and year-over-year trends
- Budget versus actual results
- Cash position and cash-flow trends
- Other KPIs identified by management
The goal isn’t simply to report the numbers — it’s to understand what the numbers are saying about the business.
Accounting & Reconciliations
- Manage day-to-day accounts payable, including invoice processing, purchase orders, approvals, and vendor payments.
- Monitor banking activity and perform bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile company credit-card accounts and ensure expenses are properly documented and classified.
- Perform monthly balance sheet and general-ledger reconciliations.
- Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate and organized accounting records.
- Assist with accounts receivable and other accounting functions as needed.
- Help strengthen accounting procedures and internal financial controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing financial processes and workflows.
Sales Tax & Compliance
- Prepare or coordinate sales-tax reporting and filings.
- Maintain documentation supporting sales-tax calculations and filings.
- Help ensure compliance with applicable reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with outside accounting and tax professionals when appropriate.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone with a strong accounting foundation who is ready to expand beyond the numbers and become a true business partner.
The ideal candidate is:
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Analytical, curious, and comfortable working with financial data.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of assignments.
- Someone who investigates discrepancies rather than simply reporting them.
- Able to identify trends and explain what they could mean for the business.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, growing entrepreneurial environment.
- Hands-on and willing to tackle both routine accounting responsibilities and higher-level analytical projects.
- Interested in improving processes rather than simply following them.
- Strong with technology and interested in using automation and AI to improve accounting, reporting, and analysis.
- Trustworthy and comfortable handling confidential financial information.
- Interested in learning the business and growing professionally alongside the company.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Approximately 3–5 years of accounting, audit, or financial-reporting experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
- Experience with account reconciliations and monthly close.
- Experience preparing or reviewing P&Ls and Balance Sheets.
- Strong Excel and/or Google Sheets skills.
- Comfortable working with accounting software and financial systems.
- Strong ability to organize, interpret, and analyze financial data.
- Experience in multi-location retail, inventory-based businesses, or entrepreneurial companies is a plus.
- Public accounting experience, CPA, or CPA-track status is a plus, but not required.
Why This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity for someone who wants to have a real impact on a growing business.
The successful candidate will not simply be responsible for producing accurate financial statements. They will be expected to ask questions, identify trends, uncover opportunities, investigate issues, and help management make better decisions.
You’ll work directly with ownership and leadership and gain broad exposure to the company’s financial operations, business performance, and growth strategy.
For the right individual, this role offers the opportunity to grow with the company, take on increasing responsibility, and potentially develop into a strategic financial leadership position in the future.
If you’re an accounting professional who enjoys digging into numbers, understanding the story behind them, and helping a growing company make smarter decisions, this could be an excellent opportunity to build your career.
