Description
A growing construction and industrial services company is seeking a motivated early-career professional with 0–3 years of experience to join its estimating team in the Downingtown, PA area.
This role is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in construction estimating while gaining hands-on experience across structural steel fabrication and erection, equipment setting, piping, and other industrial construction disciplines.
You’ll work closely with experienced estimators to develop technical knowledge, learn the estimating process, and take on increasing responsibility as your skills and experience grow.
The Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for an individual with an educational background in construction management, engineering, or a construction-related trade/technical field, ideally complemented by an internship or co-op with a general contractor, industrial contractor, or similar organization.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing detailed cost estimates for industrial construction projects, from initial concept through final proposal, under the guidance of senior estimators.
- Analyze project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and RFIs, to identify scope, risks, and value-engineering opportunities.
- Perform quantity take-offs and pricing for structural steel fabrication, erection, equipment setting, piping, and related scopes.
- Support the solicitation, evaluation, and negotiation of subcontractor and vendor pricing across multiple trades, including concrete/civil, electrical, and specialty subcontractors.
- Collaborate with project management, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure accurate project scoping and budgeting.
- Assist in preparing comprehensive bid proposals and, as experience develops, participate in presenting estimates to leadership and clients.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative solutions that align with client requirements.
- Develop working knowledge of industry trends, material costs, construction practices, and market conditions.
- Progress toward independently managing estimates and eventually mentoring newer team members as knowledge and experience grow.
Qualifications
- 0–3 years of experience in construction estimating, project engineering, or a related role, including relevant internship or co-op experience.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil/structural engineering, or a related discipline from a college, university, or trade/technical school.
- Relevant internship or co-op experience with a general contractor, industrial contractor, or similar organization is strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and bid documents, or demonstrated aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Clear, professional communication skills with a collaborative and coachable mindset.
- Genuine interest in developing a long-term career in construction estimating.
- Willingness to travel to job sites for site visits and walk-throughs as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with estimating or construction software such as Bluebeam, Procore, Sage Estimating, or similar platforms is a plus. Training will be provided.
- Candidates with backgrounds in general contracting, commercial construction, or industrial construction are encouraged to apply when supported by relevant education and/or internship experience.
